�¼������ϲ�

The �¼������ϲ� Board of Regents is expanding its focus on student well-being by broadening the scope of the Student Food and Housing Workgroup to address mental health and well-being. This action, announced at the September board meeting, is a proactive step in �¼������ϲ�’s commitment to prioritizing student well-being. 

“While our universities already offer strong student health and wellness services, our renewed emphasis on mental health will further strengthen our campus communities,” said �¼������ϲ� Chair Cecilia Mata. “By adopting a proactive approach that includes data-driven decision-making, cross-state collaboration, and student-centered initiatives, we are committed to ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to thrive.”

While there is a need for mental health services, it is also essential to create campus environments that promote meaningful connections and foster community. “Our universities are at the forefront of addressing mental health and recognizing its crucial connection to students' overall well-being and academic success," said �¼������ϲ� Executive Director Chad Sampson.

The board's action comes after �¼������ϲ�’s inclusion in the inaugural Student Mental Health and Wellness Learning Community. The 15-month collaborative project, sponsored by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association and The Jed Foundation, began in October 2023. �¼������ϲ� is one of five states participating in this initiative. 

“I am proud that the board is advancing this workgroup, reaffirming its dedication to student well-being and its role in fostering a supportive educational environment,” said Student Regent David Zaragoza. “Student success is tied to student well-being and I am very hopeful that we can make a positive difference for students through this initiative.”

Student Regents Zaragoza and Jadyn Fisher will through in-person listening sessions with students and report results to the board, hoping to reach many student organizations in these sessions. 

“This concerted effort will help ensure the holistic well-being and success of our students, recognizing the interconnectedness between their physical, social, mental and emotional needs,” said �¼������ϲ� Director of Postsecondary Attainment Roxanne Murphy.
