"It is with deep sadness that the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê Board of Regents mourns the passing of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Justice O'Connor was a trailblazer whose legacy will continue to inspire and shape the course of our nation's history. As the first woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court, Justice O'Connor shattered barriers and paved the way for countless individuals to believe in and pursue their dreams.
"Beyond her groundbreaking achievements, Justice O'Connor's unwavering commitment to the principles of civil discourse stand as a testament to her dedication to the ideals that underpin our democratic society. Her advocacy for reasoned and respectful dialogue inspired the board’s Regents’ Cup, a competition celebrating free speech and civil discourse at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê’s public universities. She has left an indelible mark on our nation, fostering a culture of understanding and cooperation that transcends political divides.
