¼ϲ sets framework for higher education budget

As the state begins its plans for next year’s budget, the ¼ϲ Board of Regents outlined its priorities to support college affordability and programs designed to grow jobs and increase wages for families across ¼ϲ.

“This vote is more than a budget request, it affirms our promise to provide opportunities for ¼ϲ students to earn a degree, have quality teachers in the classroom, more doctors at the clinic, and access to inventions and discoveries that provide solutions to some of the state’s largest challenges,” said ¼ϲ Chair Cecilia Mata. “We look forward to working with the governor and lawmakers to focus state investments on ¼ϲ’s future.”

Budget priorities include:

  • Restoring operational funding cut in the FY 25 budget.
  • Accelerating new medical schools, allied health programs and medical technology and research with AZ Healthy Tomorrow.
  • Renewing investments in job creation, new technologies and research.
  • Fully funding scholarships for low-income ¼ϲ students and our future teachers through the ¼ϲ Promise Program and the ¼ϲ Teachers Academy.
  • Investing in building repairs and new infrastructure.

The board and universities will work with the Governor’s Office and submit a detailed budget plan by October 1. The plans are used by the ninth floor for consideration as it builds the Governor’s FY 2026 budget proposal.
