2024 Regents’ Cup celebrates free speech, civil discourse in tri-university debate and storytelling tournament

Democracy, Justice and the Rule of Law theme for scholarship event

WHAT: The 2024 Regents’ Cup is a tri-university speech and debate competition presented by the ¼ϲ Board of Regents that brings students together to celebrate free speech and civil discourse. Participating student teams from ¼ϲ State University, Northern ¼ϲ University and the University of ¼ϲ compete in Oxford debate and storytelling categories in this annual event that honors participants for articulating different points of view in an environment where competitors remain civil and respectful.

Students compete for scholarships to support their education. First place winners earn $15,000, second place $12,000 and third place $5,000. Students spend several months preparing for the event and earn course credit at their university for their work.

¼ϲ’s public universities are exemplars in free speech and are recognized by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression with the .

 WHEN: Saturday, March 23, 2024

  • Kickoff – 7:45 a.m.
  • Competition first round – 8:45-11:15 a.m.
  • Lunch – 11:15 a.m.
  • Quarter and Semifinals – 1:30-5:05 p.m.
  • Storytelling Finals – 5:10 p.m.
  • Oxford Finals – 6:15 p.m.
  • Awards Reception – 7:20 p.m.

WHERE: ¼ϲ State University Downtown campus

  • Kickoff and Awards Receptions – Thunderbird School of Global Management, 401 N. First St., Phoenix, AZ 85004
  • Tournament events – Thunderbird School of Global Management and Beus Center for Law and Society, 111 E. Taylor St., Phoenix, AZ 85004 (adjacent to the Thunderbird building).

PARKING: Metered street parking is available, as well as paid parking in the Taylor Street Garage (EVB Parking Garage) located just east of the buildings.
